Long ago, the Alkahest opened the four gates, and through them learned the three laws of transmutation:

1. The cosmos is a mirror of the person.

2. Perfection is reached by honing the four aspects of selfhood.

3. Death is but another form of transmutation, and need not be an ending.

But they vanished before they could reveal the fourth law, and so left us in the dark, in the absence of true perfection. Now the Great Arcana rule us, petty and power hungry, squabbling over their kingdoms. The Sector Perilous withers. But there are still some who seek true perfection, and in time, they gained a name.

The Pyrite Hounds, we call them. The fools who chase after gold.

Heed the call, Hound. Make the journey, open the four keeps, and learn what the Alkahest could not.

Set your Teeth at the Throat of the World is a combination of a solo journalling game and a deckbuilder, played using a tarot deck, some dice, and a notebook or other recording equipment. Create your Pyrite Hound and fight your way through the Major Arcana of the Tarot, generating adversaries through creative tables and then using the number cards to play out fight after fight. Each time you die, you become stronger, until at last you are ready to face your final opponent and achieve what the Alkahest could not.

This demo is 44 pages, and contains the rules for character creation and the fight against the first Great Arcana. As this is a game in progress, there are plenty of unfinished parts, and I actively welcome feedback or notes that you think would help the game improve.
